On October 3, a demonstration had been called in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria by the popular assembly of Gran Canaria against the new austerity measures, the labour reform and the increasing poverty in the Canary islands. At the end of the protest police arrested 4 people, acussing them of burning trash bins during the course of the demonstration. During the arrest at least one of the comrades was brutally beaten by police, and there were attempts to humiliate her repeatedly. The detainees were released two days after the arrest and were charged with damages and public disorder and will have to appear in court every month until the trial.
